Carpal Tunnel

A nerve disorder occurring at the wrist which causes pain, sensory changes and a loss of function in the hand. The carpal tunnel is enclosed by the bones of the wrist, and a roof consisting of a strong, broad ligament. Passing through the tunnel are all the tendons that control the wrist and fingers, the arteries and veins as well as nerves. One of the biggest causes of carpal tunnel injuries is repetitive movements involved in activities such as typing/computer work and prolonged gripping with the hand.

Signs and symptoms:

  • Pins and needles in the 1st-4th fingers
  • Pain at the wrist
  • Shaking the wrist relieves pain
  • Weakened grip strength
  • Night pain
  • Stiffness in the morning
