Common Injuries
Triangular FibroCartilage (TFC) Tear
The TFC is a triangular shaped piece of cartilage at the end of the forearm bones on the side of the little finger. It helps to complete the wrist joint. A tear/strain of the TFC commonly occurs when compressive/twisting loads are placed through the wrist, which can happen via repetitive strain e.g. a gymnast doing cartwheels, or a fall onto the wrist.
Signs and Symptoms:
- History of repetitive trauma to wrist
- Painful movement of wrist
- Clicking/catching/grinding with wrist movements
- Pain worsens with activity
- Weakness especially with grip strength
